Name: Joanne Jobe
Age: 28
Started : 93kg (maybe heavier as this record was taken 3 month after I
started)
Current: 82.5kg (still decreasing!!)
Prior to joining ODFC I was severely overweight, but all I did was brush
it under the carpet and say it was because I was a single mum with
Georgia my daughter and working full time as a recruitment consultant is
a really demanding role leaving little time to live and eat healthily. I
remember the last time I stepped on the scales prior to joining ODFC - I
was nearly hitting the 16 stone marker .This really scared me as I
believe I was not that heavy when I was 9 months pregnant!! I was out of
breath most of the time and I wanted to be able to enjoy doing fun
things with my daughter and I couldn't do this. I had tried all the
normal diets and I would lose a couple of stone but then I would put
back on double the amount I has lost in a very short space of time, your
typical yo-yo dieter!! I would admit to using food as a comfort thing
getting into a vicious circle of loss-gain-depression-comfort eat- gain.
I had never exercised since leaving school which was well over 10 years
ago. In Jan 2007 I paid for a full year's gym membership and I lasted
maybe 4 weeks. I felt embarrassed going to the gym and that everyone was
staring at me, thinking what on earth is she doing here. I never seemed
to get much encouragement and I was always left on my own not really
putting the effort in.
My best friend told me about ODFC and we were meant to start together
but she couldn't due to work commitments. So I managed to encourage a
work colleague to come along with me.
I started with ODFC Jan 2008 and this is the best thing that I ever have
done and I only wish that I had started this earlier. My first session
was at Exhibition Park and I could hardly walk, never mind run. Everyone
was really welcoming and friendly and I did not feel at all embarrassed
to be there - even though I was at the back of the group at times. The
positive encouragement changed my life as someone did believe in me and
i actually felt that i could achieve something. This made me grow from
strength to strength and now i actually can run and i never thought i
would be able to say that. I have to say that my favourite session is
the boxing ones. I so love boxing!
I have achieved things that I never thought would be possible. I will
have been coming to ODFC two years in Jan 2010, I can now run and I have
lost weight as you can see from my before, part way through and after
pictures (feel lucky as I never show that before picture to anyone!!). I
feel the best I have ever felt in my life, and this have given me the
confidence to try out new and exciting things that I thought I would
never be able to achieve such as horse riding, playing netball, learning
to ski and to ride a motorbike. The ODFC team are fabulous and the
reasons behind this is "positive encouragement" - the way the team and
friends encourage you to keep going when you want to give up and the
fantastic results I get to see on my heart rate monitor after a 1hr
session is amazing, far better than any results you get at a gym. I know
I am not the finished product but know I will be some day whilst
enjoying the journey along the way. |
